Alois Lageder Löwengang Chardonnay 2022
A full-bodied Chardonnay with pronounced aromas of pear and stone fruit layered with delicious buttery notes. Fresh, with mineral notes and delicate oak nuances through to a long finish.
No other wine has defined the history of the family winery as much as the Löwengang Chardonnay. In the 1980s, it was the first white wine from Alto Adige to successfully position itself on the international market. The grapes for this wine come from the finest, carefully selected parcels on the Löwengang estate situated in Magrè at 230 to 330 metres above sea level. The soils are sandy and gravelly with a high content of limestone, which is renowned for imparting elegance into Chardonnay wines. The vineyard is certified biodynamic. They focus on reconnecting with the natural cycles of the moon and promoting harmonious interactions among soil, plants, animals and humans. The grapes are hand-harvested.
The grapes underwent spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts in barriques, before being aged on the fine lees for 11 months in barrique, imparting a rich and creamy texture to the wine.
Alois Lageder has a rich, family-owned heritage spanning six generations. Each generation has shaped the company in its own unique way. In 1823, Johann Lageder laid the foundation stone and began trading in wine alongside his work as a wagon maker. Subsequently, his successors bought the first vineyards and began making wine themselves. A significant development occurred in 1934 when the family acquired the Löwengang Estate in Magrè, where their headquarters are still located today. In the 1990s, they set out to achieve a level of quality that was not only pioneering for their winery but also for the Alto Adige wine region. With a holistic approach to viticulture, the vineyards have been cultivated biodynamically since 2004, and they encourage their viticultural partners to adopt either organic or biodynamic practices. Their stylish wines capture their distinctive geographical heritage with artisanal flair.
