André Brunel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 'Les Cailloux' is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. The Syrah component is first aged in barrique; then, after the final blending, the new wine is aged for a further 18 months in large oak casks. This is a powerful, herb and plum scented Châteauneuf, with layers of spicy flavours and a long, elegant finish.
The Brunel estate of Les Cailloux was established in 1919, so named after the famous galets roulés (large stones) found in the vineyards of Châteauneuf. The Brunel family has lived in the area since the 18th century, although André's grandfather was the family's first winemaker. André joined his father in 1971 and has since turned Les Cailloux into a world-class estate.
