Barossa Shiraz Reserve 2018 Berton Vineyard

New product

Barossa Shiraz Reserve is deep red in colour with a very youthful, vibrant hue. The aromas are powerful and complex with a wealth of fruit including ripe black cherries and blackberries with hints of eucalyptus and spice. The rich, full bodied palate is brimming with mulberry, blackberry and vanilla notes, which are underpinned by a fine tannin structure.

More info

Established by Bob & Cherie Berton in 1996 with 75 acres of land at 450m above sea level on gently rolling hills in a sub-region of Eden Valley in South Australia, Berton Vineyard is surrounded by native yacca grass and watched over by the blue wren.

The superb Reserve Shiraz and Reserve Chardonnay wines are still sourced from this plot. In 2007 Bob purchased the Yenda winery in the heart of the Riverina. This state of the art facility has the capacity to process 20000 tonnes, and allows Berton Vineyard to produce value for money wines which sit alongside their premium single vineyard offerings.

The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks with regular skin submersion in order to extract the required colour and flavour from the grapes. After fermentation, the wine was pressed off into stainless steel tanks where it completed malolactic fermentation in the late autumn. The wine was then racked off into both French and American oak barrels resulting in a rich, spicy complex Shiraz.

Berton Vineyards

Berton Vineyards was established in 1996 by Bob and Cherie Berton when they purchased a block of land in High Eden, a subregion of the Barossa Valley, South Australia. This idyllic property sits 450m above sea level on gently rolling hills.

In 2005 the decision was made to purchase a winery to process the 100 odd tonnes that was produced at the High Eden Vineyard. In 2005 when the former Southcorp winery in Yenda became available, Bob and Cherie joined with Jamie Bennett, Paul Bartholomaeus and James Ceccato to form Berton Vineyards the company. The winery was purchased and they moved to their new home in November 2005.

This state-of-the-art facility has the capacity to process 20,000 tonnes and enables Berton Vineyards to produce value for money wines together with their premium single vineyard offerings.

Gold Medal, 95 points, International Wine Challenge 2020:
