New product
An unctuous dessert wine, golden in colour, with flavours of apricots, oranges, caramel and spice. The finish has a balanced, but refreshing acidity which prevents the wine from cloying. A stellar and great value example of this historic Cape style.
The grapes came from selected vineyards on the Buitenverwachting farm. The grapes were left to raisin on the vine, before harvest.
The wine underwent a long, slow fermentation in barriques (a small proportion of which were new), lasting between ten and twelve months.

It all began in Constantia, the narrow bit of peninsula where Governor Simon van der Stel planted 750 hectares of vines in 1685. The South African wine industry has had many changes of fortune in the three centuries since, but this historic estate remains, divided now between five wineries. Buitenverwachting, meaning ‘beyond expectation’, belongs to the Mueller family, who have lovingly restored both its buildings and its reputation as a source of particularly elegant South African wine.
