Intense red fruit and spice aromas lead to a full, fruity palate, with rich cherry and blackberry fruit, hints of spices and herbs, a supple structure and a long finish.
Situated at 450-600 metres above sea level, the vineyards are planted in the volcanic soil around the extinct volcano of Vulture. The vines range from four to sixty years old and are planted at five thousand plants per hectare. No green harvest is necessary as yields are naturally low; the grapes were hand-picked during the first ten days of October.
The grapes were macerated for seven days and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 25°C for fifteen days. The wine was then kept in three- and four-year-old French barrels for six months before release.

Cantine del Notaio in the green heart of Basilicata region is a winery leader for the production of wines made from Aglianico del Vulture, a native variety grape. On the most vocated hills of the Vulture area our grapes grow up at the slopes of the Vulture volcano. The roots deep down the soil take mineral elements and water from the common tufo volcanic layer that acts as a water reservoir giving rest to the plants during the hottest days of the year. The wines obtained are full bodied, intense, with a complex carpet of balsamic notes and great minerality. The range of wines based on the Aglianico grape comprises different types, not only the traditional red but also sparkling, rosé and white.
