This wine is deep ruby in colour with an intense and complex nose of ripe strawberry, cherry and cassis, intermingled with a dash of truffles and cedar. On the palate, it has afresh acidity, velvety tannins, and along harmonious finish.
The Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz grapes were picked from different plots on the Quinta da Leda estate and neighbouring vineyards in the Douro Superior. Quinta da Leda is located in the far eastern reaches of the Douro Superior, just 12 kilometres from the border with Spain. The vineyards are planted on rolling hills on the south bank of the Douro and are a complex patchwork of plots with different aspects and microclimates, each matched to a specific grape variety following a study that was carried out in collaboration with the Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro de Vila Real. Soils are composed predominantly of schist, which fractures vertically and allows the vine roots to delve deep to access water and nutrients during the hot Douro summers.
'Callabriga' is made at the state-of-the-art, gravity-fed Quinta da Leda winery. After full destemming, the grapes underwent gentle crushing before being transferred to stainless-steel tanks for fermentation at controlled temperatures. Following fermentation, there was an extended maceration on the skins to extract silky tannins. The wine was then racked off the skins and aged in a combination of new American oak (25%) and used French oak (75%) barrels for 12 months. The final blend was carefully assembled after numerous tastings and analysis and was gently filtered before bottling.

Casa Ferreirinha pioneered the quality revolution of Douro still wines, becoming the region's first producer dedicated to this style rather than Port. The estate was founded in 1952 by Fernando Nicolau de Almeida, who released the inaugural vintage of Portugal’s most illustrious red wine, ‘Barca-Velha’, that same year. Today, Casa Ferreirinha’s winemaking team is led by Luís Sottomayor, who trained with Nicolau de Almeida and continues his visionary legacy. The house champions quality red, white and rosé wines from across the Douro, with its top references sourced exclusively from the Douro Superior.
The name Casa Ferreirinha is derived from the affectionate nickname of Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, one of the formidable widows of the world of wine who owned and ran Port House Ferreira in the late 1800s. Purchased by Sogrape in 1987, Casa Ferreirinha currently comprises 520 hectares of vineyards in all three Douro subregions: Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo, and the Douro Superior. The beautiful Quinta da Leda is Casa Ferreirinha’s flagship estate, located close to the border with Spain, in the far east of the Douro Superior.
Luís Sottomayor restrains the Douro’s natural exuberance to produce wines that have vibrant freshness, beautiful texture and depth. The care with which he selects the fruit for each wine is especially evident in the quality of the whites.
