Château des Collines Médoc Cru Artisan, made by the 5th generation of winemakers, is marked by fine blackcurrant and raspberry fruits, with an elegant touch of spice. Lively and balanced on the palate, with fine tannins, it has a delicate and lingering finish.
The Chevreux family originated from St. Aubin de Blaye and acquired the vineyards in Civrac-en-Médoc and in Bégadan at the beginning of the last century. At this time, Alphonse Cheveux established the Château la Tessonière. In 1995, Cédric Colemyn, the great-grandson of founder Alphonse Chevreux and the fifth generation of winemakers took over the running of the Château. Having studied viticulture and oenology, he brought with him a dynamic vision and invested in the vineyards, resulting in the Cru Artisan designation and the creation of the second label, Château des Collines.
The vineyards are situated at Civrac, 70 km north-west of Bordeaux. The 15 hectare vineyard is managed using sustainable viticultural practices, respecting the environment and the biodiversity within the vineyard. The vines are planted at a density of 6600 vines per hectare in calcareous and clay soils. The grapes are harvested at their optimum maturity levels, following tasting of the bunches and oenological analysis of sample bunches from each plot of the estate.
The grapes were traditionally vinified, with a cold maceration to obtain the desired levels of extraction and pump-overs in order to aerate the wine. Fermentation took place at controlled temperatures of between 28 to 30°C, with a maceration lasting approximately 28 days. The wine was then aged in 18 months in vat. It was bottled without any fining or filtration, in order to preserve the quality and fruity characteristics of the wine.
