This Chardonnay shows aromas of ripe pear, nectarine and apple. The palate is ripe and smooth with delicious fruit character without being over the top.
The grapes come from vines aged between five and fifteen years, trained on a two-wire vertical trellis and planted at 1,700 vines per hectare on sandy loam soils. They were harvested from early to mid-February.
The wine was fermented parcel-by-parcel with various different yeast strains, including one lot that underwent wild yeast fermentation and full malolactic.
Deakin Estate is a substantial family-owned vineyard and winery located in the Mildura region of north-west Victoria. The property was purchased in 1967 and named in honour of Alfred Deakin, a former Australian Prime Minister who pioneered irrigation in this arid region. Fed by the mighty Murray River, Mildura continues to produce high-quality citrus fruit, olives, almonds... and grapes.
The estate was planted to premium wine grapes which were sold as fruit until 1980 when a winery facility was built. By the time the Deakin Estate range was launched in 1994 some vines had achieved considerable age, whilst newer vines were being planted. Efforts have been focussed on producing fruit of the highest quality and expressive wines brimming with flavour and varietal character.
