More info

The grapes come from the appellation of Menetou-Salon, which is situated in the eastern part of the Loire Valley. The terroir is characterised by marl sediments dating from the Jurassic period, which is known locally as ‘Marne de Saint Doulchard’. The region is influenced by the northern, cool climate, resulting in lively wines from grapes with characteristic high levels of acidity. Domaine Gérard Millet is certified by Haute Valeur Environmentale and the vineyards are managed sustainably. The vineyard is carefully monitored throughout the season; the soil is tilled to bring out the distinctive features of the terroir and ensure the health and vigour of the vine, while encouraging beneficial biodiversity. Careful canopy management takes place including leaf thinning, which encourages the grapes to reach optimal ripeness and concentrates the flavours in the berries.

The grapes were pressed and the juice underwent cold static settling for 48 hours. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts lasting two to three weeks. The wine was then aged on the fine lees for six to nine months to impart texture and complexity. This cuvée was vinified without the influence of oak, allowing the pure fruit flavours to be fully expressed.

The family Domaine is now run by Gérard and Isabelle, along with their son Steve. The estate covers a total of 24 hectares of vineyard, of which 19 are in the Sancerre appellation and five hectares are in Menetou-Salon. The vineyard is cultivated sustainably, with respect for the environment and biodiversity and in 2020 Domaine Gérard Millet gained the HVE Level 3 certification. This familyowned winery has recently invested in new heat exchange equipment to ensure that the grapes and must are cooled to obtain maximum freshness in the wine. Their wines are fresh, pure and show great typicity.
