An appealingly floral nose nose gives way to pithy citrus fruit flavours, with a subtle, nutty complexity on the fresh finish.
The grapes come from vineyards around Lake Bolsena, where the vines have an average age of fifteen years. The soil structure is loose and rich in potassium and phosphorus. The grapes were harvested by hand.
Following an 8-10-hour maceration on the skins at 7°C, the grapes were gently pressed and the must was passed into stainless steel tanks to ferment at a temperature of 13-15°C, using indigenous yeasts.
The Cotarella family name is intrinsically linked to some of Italy’s finest wines: Riccardo Cotarella is one of the country’s most revered winemaking consultants, and his brother Renzo is the longstanding chief winemaker at Antinori. Together they founded the Falesco winery in Lazio in 1979, with the goal of showcasing local varieties that had fallen from favour. The acquisition of an estate in Umbria in 1999 allowed the brothers to broaden their range further. In 2016, their daughters Dominga, Marta and Enrica took over the reins, and in the same year expanded the vineyard holdings into Tuscany, taking over the stunning Le Macioche estate in Brunello di Montalcino.
