An intense ruby red in colour, the wine is characterised by a complex nose of ripe black fruit, liquorice and spices. On the palate, the texture is silky and full with excellent density and persistence. Notes of ripe black fruit, liquorice, coffee and dark chocolate emerge on the finish.
The grapes were grown in the vineyards of Antinori’s Fattoria Aldobrandesca estate near the historical village of Sovana in southern Tuscany. The grapes were harvested at full maturity in late September.
The grapes were destemmed and gently crushed, then given 3-4 days’ cold maceration. The must was then warmed, inoculated and fermented over the course of a week at up to 30ºC, before being transferred to French and American oak barriques for malolactic fermentation and ten months’ ageing.

The Fattoria Aldobrandesca estate is located in the southern part of Tuscan Maremma, in the centre of what is known as “the Etruscan Tuff zone”.
The estate’s 100 hectares of vineyards are on the slopes of a spur of tuffaceous rock where the hilltop town of Sovana is located, surrounded by a beautiful natural landscape of remarkable archaeological importance.
