An intense aroma combining ripe sloes and black fruit with a mineral lift and cigar box/vanilla notes from the oak. Silky-textured and fresh in the mouth, with ample fruit fleshing out the supple structure.
Warmed by the river and protected from cold north winds by the Sierra de Cantabria, the eighty hectares of Finca Valpiedra enjoy a privileged microclimate. The soil is sandy loam and limestone, which gives excellent natural acidity, with a great many stones that help retain heat and water. The vines average thirty years old and all the grapes were hand harvested in the second week of September, with a severe selection.
The wine was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats with a fourteen-day maceration. Following fermentation, it was aged for twelve months in a mixture of French and American oak barriques.

Finca Valpiedra is the prime example of the entrepreneurial spirit of Familia Martínez Bujanda Opened in 1999, it is the only Rioja winery that belongs the Asociación Grandes Pagos de España (Grand Crus Association of Spain). Finca Valpiedra follows the classic Bordeaux style, with a single vineyard and three wines made exclusively with grapes from the Estate: Finca Valpiedra, Cantos de Valpiedra, and Petra de Valpiedra, a 100% Garnacha wine that pays tribute to the ancient Rioja.
