This Rhône blend shows typical aromas of juicy red cherries, wild berries, spices and plums. The palate is youthful and layered with generous berry flavours and spices which are balanced by integrated oak nuances. The finish is long and fresh.
This 100% Fairtrade multi-varietal blend comes from vineyards across South Africa's Western Cape and is predominately made from the traditional Rhône varieties – Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre. The Shiraz is sourced from trellised vineyards in the Paarl, Darling, Stellenbosch and Swartland regions, and the Mourvèdre from Paarl and Stellenbosch only. The Grenache, Petite Sirah, Carignan and Tempranillo are grown side by side on decomposed granite soils in Paarl, and the Cinsault is also sourced from here, grown on higher-altitude bush vines.
The grapes were destemmed and lightly crushed into stainless- steel tanks. The must was inoculated with Rhône yeasts and pump- overs were carried out up to four times a day during fermentation to enhance the tannic structure of this wine. Each variety was fermented separately. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine was racked to tanks and barrels for malolactic fermentation. It was then matured in a combination of tanks and barrels prior to blending and bottling.
