More info

The Camargue region sits along the Mediterranean coast along eastern Languedoc. The climate is definitively Mediterranean, with long hot summers and low annual rainfall. The prominent sea breezes bring freshness to the vines during the growing season, ensuring the development of acidity alongside phenolic ripeness. The vineyard is made up of siliceous sandy soils, with fragments of shells brought by the wind from the sea. The vineyards are situated close to the sea with many wetlands and ground water surrounding the vines; salty groundwater is located at 60 to 80 centimetres depth, therefore the vine roots need to spread horizontally rather than vertically. Viticultural methods are adapted to the topographical conditions; water control and management is crucial in order to protect the ground waters. Methods such as growing cover grass prevents sand erosion by anchoring the sand during the windy season. The vineyard is certified organic and the vines are cane and spur pruned.

Each variety was separately vinified, with selected yeasts at controlled temperatures to retain the vibrancy of fruit. Reductive winemaking techniques were employed, which limits the wine’s exposure to oxygen and retains the fresh fruit flavours. Maturation took place in a combination of stainless steel and concrete tanks.

Les Embruns

The windswept land of the Carmargue, between the sea and salt marshes, is home to 11 passionate winegrowers, who have come together to form Les Embruns. Les Embruns translates as ‘Sea Spray’, which represents the wild character of the Camargue terroir. Respecting nature and bio-diversity are an intrinsic part of the life in the vineyards, where the growers respect the fragile ecosystem while demonstrating what their terroir has to offer, thanks to ancestral know-how which has been passed down through the generations. With their roots in the sandy soils, bathed in sunlight and enveloped in sea air, the vines flourish in this protected environment which gained IGP Sable de Camargue status in 2009. With 500 hectares of vineyards certified organic since 2008, Les Embruns is a pioneer of organic viticulture in the region and is one of the largest organic vineyards in the world. Les Embruns produces wines with great typicity, freshness and aromatic power.
