Very clean, nicely balanced Pinot Grigio, with a gentle floral aroma, good medium weight in the mouth, and a refreshing finish.
Mezzacorona is a driving force behind the quality of Trentino wines with a state-of-the-art winery handling estate-grown fruit from the company’s extensive vineyard holdings in the heart of the Dolomites. The fifteenth century Castel Firmian overlooks the Rotaliano plain in Trentino, and the wines named after it also give an overview of the region, with both international and local varieties on offer, all crisp and expressive.
Each variety used for Castel Firmian is planted on sites with a particular affinity to it – in this case along the Valle dell’Adige – and a mixture of traditional pergola and modern espalier training systems are used.
There is a brief period of skin contact to increase structure and richness, before a standard fermentation at 10-20ºC. The wine is bottled early without oak or malolactic in order to preserve the fresh varietal character.
