An outstanding find, this wine combines flavours of honeydew melon and quince alongside an elegant floral burst of jasmine and orange blossom. The rich oily texture fills the mouth, but a cleansing and bright acidity stops this becoming cloying.
A unique late harvest made in small amounts under special climatic conditions. It is only made in years when the Sauvignon Blanc grapes from the Casablanca Valley are 100% affected by Botrytis Cinerea.
The grapes for this wine come from the El Principal vineyard, in the cold Lo Ovalle sector in Casablanca. The harvest was affected by damp sea-mists from the Pacific Ocean during the period of ripening and being collected, followed by cold, foggy days, which allowed the gradual development of noble rot by Botrytis Cinerea. This phenomenon is not usual in this area, so the wine is only produced when these conditions occur.
The fruit is harvested by hand and the clusters that show the presence of the fungus most evidently are selected in the vineyard. A second selection of clusters is made later in the winery. The grapes are pressed in hydraulic basket presses, obtaining a must of great quality, which is decanted and then fermented in previously used French oak barrels, where it is aged for a period of at least eight months in barrels and at least two months in bottle.

Morandé was founded in 1996 by Pablo Morandé, and found immediate recognition both domestically and abroad. Morandé are true pioneers – they were the first family to develop the Casablanca D.O., recognising the fantastic potential of this cool-climate wine region. They also led the way in reviving old viticultural regions such as Maule and Itata, working with old dry-farmed bush vines and unconventional varieties such as Carignan, País and Cinsault. All of the wines are produced with grapes from Morandé’s own vineyards. Their winemaking philosophy is guided by seeking the right terroir for each grape variety, and with significant vineyard holdings they are well placed to achieve this.
