Paul Jaboulet Aîné Domaine de Roure Crozes Hermitage Blanc 2021
A textured and concentrated Marsanne, with delicate aromas of honey flowers and apricot. The fleshy and well-structured palate shows a charming smoky note underpinned by bright minerality and a hint of almond on the finish.
The Domaine de Roure vineyard is located in the commune of Gervans, to the north of Tain l’Hermitage. The estate vines are located in a beautiful valley covering 1.4 hectares of fantastic ecological habitat and a biodiversity refuge has been founded here. The entire vineyard is certified organic and cultivated with respect for the soil and the living ecosystem. Following a philosophy regenerative farming, the long-term endeavour aims to provide the means for terroir-driven fine wines to shine. The vines were planted between 1945 to 2000 and yield between 30 to 40 hl/ha. The vines are planted on steep slopes with gradients of between 10 to 25% at an altitude of 220 metres. The majority of the vines are trained according to the Cordon de Royat method; however, some are Gobelet trained on stakes. Manually harvested, the fruit is sorted by plot and taken to the winery in 12kg crates. The vineyard is certified organic.
The fruit underwent whole bunch pressing and after settling, fermentation took place in a combination of in concrete eggs and demi-muids. The wine was aged on the fine lees in the same containers.
Domaines Paul Jaboulet Aîné was founded in 1834 and cultivates the iconic terroirs form the northern Rhône Valley across seven appellations. Family owned by the Frey family since 2006, talented winemaker Caroline Frey and her team implement heroic viticulture techniques on the unique, heritage landscapes. Following a long tradition in preserving and working the land, the Frey family are pioneers in biodiversity, with a ninehectare wildlife reserve and ecosystem preservation efforts. Since 2016, the vineyards have been certified AB organic and since 2021 the entire vineyard has been cultivated biodynamically and with a regenerative approach. The variety of soils and multitude of terroirs shape the distinctive character of their wines. Caroline is dedicated to crafting exceptional wines following a philosophy that when the grape varieties are in perfect harmony with the terroir, they reveal their finest expression. These are exquisite wines which beautifully reflect the nuances of their origins.
