More info

This is the ultimate expression of what the noble red Douro varieties can produce at Quinta da Romaneira from the very best lots of wines, usually from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, and sometimes from Tinto Cao parcels, situated throughout the Romaneira vineyard, to make a limited edition blend of the finest wines. This Reserva is identified with the whole of the Romaneira vineyard rather than one specific parcel. The soils at Quinta da Romaneira are predominantly schist, with a laminated structure that facilitates drainage and allows the vine roots to penetrate deeply to reach nutrients and moisture. Grapes are by necessity hand harvested due to the steepness of the slopes.

Fermented in stainless steel tanks for a period of 8 days where it then undergoes malolactic fermentation. Some malolactic is also completed in oak barrels. 100% aged in 225l. French oak barrels for 12 months, 60% new, 40% second year.

Quinta da Romaneira

Established in 1757, Romaneira is one of the largest estates on the region, with a total of 412 ha and 3 km of river frontage on the river Douro, of which 86 ha are planted. The vineyards are planted on terraces on the steeply sloping hills of the property: with many valleys and promontories, Romaneira contains several microclimates and various slopes with differing exposures. All of the wines are made exclusively from grapes from the estate’s vineyards, a distinctive characteristic of Quinta da Romaneira wines. In 2004, Christian Seely turns his dream into reality, bringing together a group of investors to acquire Romaneira and since 2012 Andre Esteve has been Christian’s sole partner Romaneira has benefitted from very extensive renovation, rebuilding and replanting. A new winery was built in 2005, the long dreamed of opportunity of Christian Seely and the original winemaker Antonio Agrellos, now succeeded by his nephew Carlos, to construct the ideal modern and technical winery in the Douro Valley, starting from scratch allowing the estate to produce wines of the highest quality.
