Raventós de Alella Pansa Blanca 2021

RAPB21

New product

Intensely fruity upfront, with crystalline notes of ripe citrus and green apple. This leads on to a herbal, savoury and stony streak which runs through the backbone of the wine. The finish is long and elegant - a wine with real balance and poise.

More info

Located just to the north of Barcelona, the DO of Alella encompasses only 300 hectares. What it lacks in size though, it makes up for in history – first settled in Roman times, wine has been made here continuously for over two thousand years. Raventos de Alella are something of a specialist and since their foundation in 1981, they have been almost entirely focused on cultivating the native Pansa Blanca variety. This unique grape is only found in this tiny corner of the Mediterranean where it flourishes in the poor sandstone soils to produce unique wines of real richness, depth and character.

The grapes are sourced from vineyards in close proximity to the Mediterranean Sea, some of which over sixty years old. The vines are predominantly planted on poor sandstone soils, known locally as Sauló. Older vines are Gobelet trained, with newer plantings trained to cordon royat. The majority of the grapes were hand-picked during August.

The grapes were whole bunch pressed, with fifteen percent being cold macerated on their skins. Temperature controlled fermentation was carried out at 16ºC. Wherever possible each vineyard plot was pressed and vinified seperately.
