Dominant aromas of red fruit, black cherries, and plums merge with spicy sensations of liquorice, vanilla, and tobacco. The palate is soft and generous with good structure sustained by an elegant tannic texture.
The Masseria Maìme estate runs along the Adriatic coast, with vineyards set in between woods and pine forests. The grapes for Torcicoda come from older Primitivo vineyards at the estate.
The grapes were harvested slightly over-ripe. After destemming, the berries were gently crushed, and the must was transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place at a controlled temperature that did not exceed 28°C. During maceration on the skins, periodic pump overs and delèstage (rack and return) were performed over a period of approximately 13 days. The wine was left to age for about 18 months before bottling.
In October 2021 Decanter wrote "nuanced aromas of chocolate and plum jam. On the palate it is intense, warm and enveloping, like a comforting, velvety caress." Torcicoda was the first wine from Puglia to be listed in Wine Spectator's Top 100.

Tormaresca is made up of two estates in different areas of Puglia: in the central, inland region of Castel del Monte they have Aglianico, and in the Salento peninsula of the extreme south-east, Primitivo and Negroamaro. Cabernet and Chardonnay are grown in both zones, giving the winemaker a broad palette from which to blend the very consistent entry-level wines. Antinori only invested here in 1998, yet in that time Tormaresca has become a flagship of Puglian production.
