Overflowing with wild red berried fruit, this is layered with chocolate, ground coffee, hints of forest floor and white pepper. Smooth, harmonious with an elegant freshness.
The Tempranillo grapes were selected from estate vineyards in Torre de Oña, in the foothills of Sierra de Cantabria. The terroir, predominantly made up of limestone soils offers excellent drainage properties and produces grapes with great aromatic complexity and outstanding freshness. La Rioja Alta is committed to protecting the environment; in the vineyard treatments are limited, they invest in clean energy sources and reuse water. Shelters have been installed in some of the vineyards for certain insects and arachnids that are beneficial for viticulture, thus promoting environmentallyfriendly plant health defence and increasing the biodiversity in the vineyards.
The grapes were harvested by hand and taken to the winery in small boxes to preserve the qualityof the fruit. The bordelaise system of destemming was used, with gentle crushing, followed by alcoholic fermentation and subsequently, malolactic conversion in tanks. Ageing began in January in new American (60%) and French second-use oak barrels (40%) and lasted 16 months. This wine was racked by hand three times using the traditional method.
