A rich, complex and characterful wine full of Alpine freshness, with elegant notes of pear, toast and melted butter, layered with spicy tobacco and vanilla, through to a long, mineral finish.
The vines are grown in the Unterebner region of the Alto Adige, in a vineyard situated at 400 to 600 metres’ elevation. The vines are planted on slopes, of which 85% face southeast and 15% face south, this allows the vines to benefit from maximum sun exposure to help the fruit ripen at this altitude. The micro-climate offers extreme interplay between sunny days influenced by the Mediterranean climate and cool nights marked by the cold downslope winds from the surrounding mountains. This creates a long hang-time for the fruit, allowing good accumulation of flavours and sugars, which are naturally balanced with acidity from the cool nights and refreshing winds. The vines have an average age of 10 to 30 years and are grown in calciferous gravel with loam, partially with porphyry bedrock, which imparts a distinctive mineral character to the wines.
The grapes were delivered in small bins and immediately gently pressed. The must fermented slowly at controlled temperatures for 18 to 20°C, partly in oak barrels of 30 to 40 hectolitres and partly in tonneaux, where malolactic conversion also occurred. The wine was clarified through natural sedimentation before being matured in large French oak barrels of 30 to 40 hectolitres, with a smaller proportion in tonneaux, on the lees until the end of August. Once bottled, the wine matured in the bottle for a minimum of three months, resulting in a total maturation period of at least 14 months

Cantina Tramin was founded in 1898 and has 310 member winegrowers who follow its strict directives on the cultivation of the vines. The vineyards are an integral part of the enchanting and picturesque landscape of the Alto-Adige region of Northern Italy and cover 260 hectares situated on the sunny slopes of the region at altitudes ranging from 250 to 850 metres above sea level.
In 2011, Cantina Tramin gained the "Double Stella" award. This is given to a winery for achieving the prestigious "3 Bicchieri" 20 times and is awarded by the Gambero Rosso.
Jancis Robinson MW says the following about Cantina Tramin:
"Cantina Tramin is a reliable source (of top quality dry white wines). The sleepy village of Termeno/Tramin, is the birthplace of the Traminer white grape variety, also known as Gewürztraminer (spiced Traminer) for its heady aroma. Even today Tramin really is very good for Traminer, and has been waking up in response to a discernible fashion for this powerfully scented, full-bodied varietal wine throughout Italy."
