Quintessential expression of this variety, offering aromas of limes, grapefruit and white peaches. The palate is crisp and refreshing, with precise elderflower and nettle flavours and a subtle minerality on the finish.
The grapes come from carefully selected vineyards planted on chalk and loam soils, all with favourable aspects overlooking the Avon Valley and sheltered by Nethercote Hill. The grapes were harvested by hand.
The wine was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats.
Based in the historic Wiltshire village of Lacock, five generations of the Self family have worked the land at Whitehall Farm, but it is the current incumbents Peter and Claire who, driven by the desire for a new challenge and a passion for wine, took the decision to plant vines. The first four-and-a-half hectares of vineyards were introduced in 2011, with further plantings in 2017 taking the total area under vine to eight hectares of Bacchus, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Rondo. This beautiful location overlooking the Avon Valley benefits from free-draining chalk and loam soils whilst the nearby Nethercote Hill provides shelter from inclement weather. These factors all combine to allow the production of elegant yet full-flavoured wines.
