Intense aromas with floral, citrus, and ripe fruit notes, along with mineral undertones and hints of smoke and cream. On the palate, the wine is dense, balanced, and fresh, with a mineral depth, fruity richness, and a very direct and tasty profile. The finish is very long, flavoursome, and intense.
The vineyards are situated in Gomariz, within the municipality of Leiro, in the heart of the Ribeiro mountain range, more precisely in the Avia subzone. They rest at an elevation of approximately 250 metres and are made of several small plots on the mountainside. The terrain is composed of shale and clay soils that have been fragmented and accumulated by rivers over countless years. The vines, which are grown on trellises, vary in age from 4 to 115 years. Smoky nuances, a hallmark of the wine, originate from the local Xisto Rubio (reddish shale), endowing it with a pronounced mineral quality. The region's Atlantic climate is distinguished by frequent mountain fogs and hot summers. In the vineyard, a plant cover is maintained to keep the soil alive and vines are nurtured using natural preparations to diminish the need for phytosanitary treatments. Organic products are used as much as possible where the conditions allow. Viticulture, vineyard management, and the harvest are conducted entirely by hand.
Grapes undergo whole bunch pressing in a pneumatic press, followed by static settling for 48-72 hours. Fermentation starts with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, at low temperatures, and midway through fermentation, the must is transferred to 2500L French oak foudre ovals. Here, the wine matures for about 10 months. The lees are stirred monthly, aiming solely for the reductive influence of the lees, not to add more volume to the wine. A rotation of barrels occurs between new and those that have housed up to four vintages. Each year, a new barrel is introduced, and an older one is retired. All the wine is fermented and aged in these barrels.

Winemaker Xosé Lois Sebio of Viños de Encostas has produced this stunning eponymous collection of wines as a result of a personal quest: to find wines with unique personality from more risky processing zones and with a very marked identity. This original and quirky range is made from high quality grapes in areas which are often neglected or simply different; vineyards that are difficult to farm due to the high costs of conventional viticulture. Away from fashions and conventions, the sole intention is to respect and express the soil, variety and area; producing wines with soul and personality. The wines are vinified with minimal intervention and low sulphur. These are collectable wines for lovers of the authentic and different.
