More info

Chianti Superiore is a relatively new DOCG that allows a high-quality wine to be sourced from several regions within the Chianti zone. The Santa Cristina is a blend of various parcels, each picked at different times according to optimum ripeness. The grapes were harvested between the middle of September and the begining of October.

After destemming and gentle crushing, the must was split and two different vinification processes were performed. The smaller portion underwent maceration for one week at 25ºC, whilst the larger portion had a ten-to-twelve-day maceration period at 30ºC, with frequent gentle pump-overs. After the wine completed alcoholic fermentation, it underwent malolactic fermentation. The wine was then aged on its lees in stainless steel for around seven months before blending and bottling.

Santa Cristina

The Antinori family released their first wine under the Santa Cristina name in 1946. Since then Santa Cristina has been a byword for quality and value in Tuscany – now more so than ever since the creation of a dedicated winery in 2006. The range now consists of reds and rosés from Tuscany and whites from Umbria, so the winery’s location in Cortona, southern Tuscany, is ideal.
