A juicy and vibrant Malbec with rich dark fruits layered with spicy note of white pepper and floral nuances of rose and violet, through to a lively and mineral finish.
This 100% Malbec is crafted from estate-grown fruit within the Tunuyán subregion. 35% of the grapes originate from the Finca El Oasis vineyards, situated at 1,100-1,150 metres above sea level. Planted between 2003 and 2008, these trellis-trained vines are planted at a density of 5,000 plants per hectare and are drip-irrigated. The shallow, sandy loam soils contain calcium carbonates and calcium carbonate-encrusted stones from 20cm below the surface. The remaining 65% of the fruit hails from the Finca La Pampa vineyards in the San Pablo GI, located at 1,250 metres above sea level. Planted in 2013, these trellis-trained vines also have a density of 5,000 plants per hectare. The sandy loam soil is only slightly rocky in the top 50cm, with a higher concentration of rocks and calcium carbonate deposits deeper down.
The grapes were hand-harvested, meticulously selected and destemmed. The crushed grapes were cold-macerated at 8-10°C for 4 to 5 days. For fermentation, the must was divided: 15% was transferred to 7,000-litre oak foudres, 6% to concrete tanks, and the remainder to stainless steel tanks. Fermentation was initiated with selected yeasts for 70% of the must and with wild yeasts for the remaining 30%. In both cases, fermentation was temperature controlled at 28-29°C, with remontage, délestage, and pigéage techniques. A further 7-10 days of post-fermentation maceration followed, before racking and transfer to oak barrels for spontaneous malolactic conversion. After six months, the component wines were blended and returned to French oak for a total period of 14 months.

Bodegas Salentein is nestled in the picturesque Uco Valley just south of Mendoza. In 1996, Dutch entrepreneur Mijndert Pon purchased the estate in what initially seemed to be a rocky desert. He ambitiously embarked on planting vineyards at high altitudes with the aim of producing ‘wines like no other.’ A year later, construction of the magnificent cross-shaped winery began. The four wings of the landmark winery each ferment the wines before gravity transfers it to the underground cellars. The high-altitude vines are planted at an elevation of between 1,050 and 1,600 metres, against the breathtaking backdrop of the Andes Mountains. At this altitude, the vines benefit from optimal diurnal temperature differences and a diverse terroir in which they flourish. Today, Bodegas Salentein is one of the most admired Argentine wineries - not just in the Uco Valley, but in the world. Their focus is producing terroir-driven wines which express the essence of the Uco Valley, and they do so with great purity and finesse.
